Profile

Born in France in 1947, Yves Cass studied at the Lycée Malherbe in Deauville and took his Baccalaureate in Philosophy in 1967. He then attended the Superior School of Journalism in Paris and embarked on a journalistic career which he pursued until his desire to paint took over in 1975.
Yves describes himself as a self taught painter who has enjoyed art and painting since an early age. He can boast numerous successful exhibitions both as an amateur and as a professional in some of France’s most glamorous settings, including the Salon de Paris, Cannes, Monaco and Saint Raphael. His work has also been displayed in the Galerie d’Art Contemporain in Venice and the Galerie Vendome in Washington, firmly establishing his position as an international talent.
Working in oil on canvas, Yves draws on his knowledge and love of music, poetry and literature to create dreamlike evocations of myths and legends. His distinctive palette, using contrasting shades of its chosen colour, combines with his joyful subject-matter to create uplifting messages of peace and hope.
"The pleasure of creation is capricious, mysterious and all consuming which at times transports me. Above all it is music which lifts me into this marvellous world of imagination. At times it seems miraculous when my hand fails to move fast enough to transmit the fugitive vision onto the canvas."
